Translumo is a cool tool for anyone who needs to translate words from foreign languages quickly. With all the new tech out there, it’s easier than ever to understand what those tricky words mean without having to type anything. Thanks to advancements in optical text recognition (OCR), you can get real-time translations just by pointing at the text!
Using Translumo is super simple! You just pick the foreign language you want to translate from and the language you want it translated into. Then, all you have to do is highlight an area on your screen for the OCR feature to scan, and voilà! The translation pops up in a handy little app window.
Even though there’s some complex tech behind it, getting started with Translumo is easy-peasy. The basic steps are straightforward, but there are also options you can tweak if you want a more customized experience.
Now, it's important to mention that the number of languages available for translation is somewhat limited. You can choose from English, Japanese, Russian, Korean, and Chinese as your source languages. But don’t worry; the list of languages you can translate into is much longer!
The default translator for Translumo is DeepL. If it’s not working out for you or not accurate enough, no stress! You can easily switch it over to Google, Yandex, or Papago—whatever feels best for your needs.
Your success with text detection might vary based on which algorithm you use. There are options like Tesseract, Microsoft’s solution, and Jaided AI (which works only on NVIDIA GPUs). Personally, I found Microsoft’s option performed well enough for my tasks.
The results I got from Translumo were pretty good overall! I did have a hiccup with DeepL not being accurate at times, but switching over to Google helped fix that problem right away. Since translation quality really depends on the translator itself, having options makes a big difference.
Even though Translumo is still fairly new in the game, it worked surprisingly well during my tests—smooth and error-free! Overall, it's a solid concept that's executed really effectively.
