macOS comes with the built-in TextEdit editor for your day to day text processing needs, but the utility proves to be unsuitable whenever you need reviewing source code or HTML files since everything is automatically converted to RTF.
TipTyper is a minimalist text editor that will help you keep track of and jump to a particular line, integrates a word and character counter, comes with a smart indentation algorithm, and allows you to customize its interface to match your needs.
The TipTyper user interface is represented by a small window where you get to quickly input the text content and start editing. In the bottom area of the window you get to see the words, characters, and lines counters together with the character encoding format used by the file.
You can toggle the bottom bar's visibility from the top TipTyper bar: just click on the Information button. The same area enables you to change the text alignment, toggle the visibility of the lines panel, or choose to jump to a particular line in the document.
Note that TipTyper comes with a toolbar customization panel that enables you to add new buttons to the bar with a simple drag and drop. Additional tools include editor spacing, adjusting the font size, or toggling the visibility of the invisible characters.
On the other hand, via the TipTyper Preferences you can opt to have tabs inserted automatically, count spaces as characters, change the default tab size, decide if new windows include the lines and information bars, and adjust the editor's appearance (font style and color or background color).
TipTyper is designed to replace the default TextEdit app whenever you need to work with source code: instead of converting everything to RTF, TipTyper preserves the character encoding, allows you to work with lines and enables you to see invisible characters.
