The Shortcut - My Documents is a nifty little widget designed for the Yahoo! Widget Engine. It's super lightweight and lets you quickly access your My Documents folder in your usual file explorer, whether you're using Windows Explorer or another program.
Now, here's the deal: Yahoo! Widget Engine isn't being developed anymore. This means that any cool gadgets made for it can't be downloaded from their official site anymore. But don't worry! You can still grab the application framework and The Shortcut - My Documents from Softpedia since they both still work just fine.
Setting up this widget is a breeze. All you have to do is confirm a few things, and you're good to go! The widget itself has a small frame with a cute folder logo that opens up your My Document directory when you click it.
A quick heads up: the default path might not work perfectly on every operating system. If clicking doesn't do anything, just head over to the settings panel and set your own path. You can paste it from your Clipboard or use the built-in file browser—super easy!
You might run into a tiny issue where The Shortcut - My Documents can only recognize files, not folders. But no sweat! Just pick a file from your desired folder, then remove the part of the path that has the file name and extension. Easy fix!
This widget helps you get to your My Documents folder or any other favorite directory in no time—whether it's on your local drive, removable storage, or even on a network location. One thing to note: you can't customize the folder icon or add shortcuts for multiple directories.
The Yahoo! Widget Engine comes packed with some neat features too! You can choose to have the frame sit above or below other open panels, adjust its transparency, ignore mouse events, and even prevent dragging around.
