The DALEK is a fun little widget that you can use with the Yahoo! Widget Engine. It adds a cool desktop companion right to your computer, and guess what? It’s a Dalek from the popular Sci-Fi show "Doctor Who." If you’re not familiar, Daleks are these iconic aliens who are all about conquering and eliminating anyone they see as inferior. They kind of take inspiration from Nazis, which makes them pretty creepy but also super interesting!
Now, even though the Yahoo! Widget Engine isn’t being developed anymore, you can still grab it from Softpedia. Installing this gadget is really quick! Just double-click the file and confirm when prompted.
Once installed, you’ll see a new panel pop up in the dock. The Dalek model will appear on your desktop and it’s pretty cool to watch! This little guy can rotate its head and eyes independently, move around by itself, and even follow your mouse if you get close enough. And here’s the best part: when you double-click it, it shouts "Exterminate!" just like in the show!
If you're into customization, you can change how fast your Dalek moves by adjusting its frame rate. A higher frame rate means smoother animations and quicker movements—pretty neat, right?
The Yahoo! Widget Engine also comes with some handy options that all widgets share. You can choose whether the frame stays normal or sits below/above other windows. Plus, there are settings to stop mouse dragging or ignore pointer events altogether. You can even tweak how transparent it is!
