Text Converter is a super handy app that helps you encode and decode text into various formats like binary, octal, hexadecimal, decimal, Base64, and ROT13. If you're diving into Computer Science for the first time, this tool can be a great educational buddy!
You can grab Text Converter easily from the Windows Store since it’s designed as a Metro app. Once you’ve got it installed, you’ll notice it has a sleek Modern UI that fits nicely with the look of Windows 8, 8.1, and 10.
The main screen shows two big boxes: one for typing in your text and another where you'll see the results. Just remember to choose whether you want to encode or decode before getting started!
The app defaults to encoding mode. Here, you can type in regular text and convert it to binary, octal, hexadecimal, decimal, Base64 or ROT13 format—whatever you need!
You can also tell Text Converter how you want your output displayed: with spaces between codes, with indicators included, or all jumbled together without any spaces at all.
If you switch to decoding mode, just pick the type of code you started with and watch as it turns back into plain text so you can see what it really means.
A little downside? There aren’t any buttons for copying or saving directly. But don’t sweat it! You can take a screenshot of what’s on your screen and share that image using other Modern UI apps like Microsoft OneNote.
Just a heads-up: during our tests, we found that the app crashed when trying to encode large pieces of text. It would also be nice if there was an option to load files directly instead of having to copy and paste everything manually.
All in all, Text Converter offers an easy way to switch your text between regular formats and those cool encoded ones like binary or Base64. Just keep in mind that handling larger texts might be tricky!
