Submarine is a handy little app for Mac users that makes finding and downloading subtitles super easy. With so many of us streaming movies on platforms like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime, we often run into issues where subtitles just aren't available or aren't in our language. That's where Submarine comes to the rescue!

Why You Might Need Subtitles

Sometimes when you pop in a DVD or fire up your favorite streaming service, you might notice there are no subtitles—or they’re not synced up right! Frustrating, right? Luckily, Submarine helps you get the right subtitles without any hassle.

Easily Find Your Subtitles

This minimalist macOS application has one goal: to help you quickly find and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org. Just drag and drop your video file onto Submarine's window or type in the name of the movie or show you’re watching and hit Enter. It really can't get simpler than that!

Select Your Languages

If you're looking for specific languages, no problem! Open up the Preferences window and select the languages you want by using the drop-down menu. This feature makes it super simple to narrow down your options.

Download with a Click!

Once Submarine finishes searching for subtitles, it’ll list everything it found from opensubtitles.org. All you have to do is pick one, hit the Download button at the bottom left corner, and you're good to go!

A Few Drawbacks

Now, while we think Submarine is great overall, there was a hiccup during our testing. We couldn't use the "Send to" option for sending downloaded subtitles directly to apps like Playr or iSubtitle—though it’s supposed to work with them.

The Bottom Line

If you're on the hunt for a quick way to grab subtitles for your favorite DVDs or Blu-ray movies—or if you're watching something online—Submarine is definitely worth having on your Mac. Plus, if those default subtitles aren’t cutting it, you can easily load custom ones you've downloaded with this app.
