Strange
Strange is a cool program that shows a gallery of Clifford Attractors. So, what are these attractors? Well, each image starts with a point on an (x, y) grid and keeps transforming it using some math magic! The transformation goes like this:
Understanding the Transformation
new x = sin(ay) + c cos(ax)
new y = sin(bx) + d cos(by)
Making Unique Images
Each time you tweak the coefficients {a, b, c, d}, you get a different image. This program works hard to find "interesting" attractors. These are the ones that create images that look full and lively rather than empty. It gathers all these unique images into a neat gallery for you to check out.
The Path of the Point
As the transformations happen over and over again, that starting point begins to trace out a path. It curves in one direction and then swings back the other way. This process repeats as it visits different areas of the image time after time. By plotting all these points together, we end up with a stunning picture of the attractor!
Coloring the Points
The fun part? The colors! Each point gets colored based on its "velocity." The hue shows which way it moved during each transformation, while how bright or dull each pixel appears tells us how many points were plotted there. So more points mean brighter pixels!
