Description
ssldump
ssldump is a handy tool for analyzing SSLv3 and TLS network protocols. It helps you spot TCP connections on your chosen network interface and tries to make sense of them as SSLv3/TLS traffic. When it finds this type of traffic, it decodes the records and shows them in plain text right in the console. It's pretty cool, right?
How Does ssldump Work?
This software relies on the libpcap capture library. Now, if you're using a system like FreeBSD, you're in luck because libpcap usually comes pre-installed. However, if you're on another system, you might need to install it yourself. You can grab the distribution from tcpdump.org.
Decrypting Traffic with OpenSSL
If you link ssldump with OpenSSL, it can show certificates in decoded form and even decrypt traffic—if you've got the right keying material, that is! If OpenSSL isn’t already on your system, no worries! You can download it from openssl.org.
What’s New in This Release?
Here are some highlights:
- Security fix: addressed some potential overflows and underflows.
- Added support for VLANs.
- A new -P flag lets you disable promiscuous mode.
- Bunch of bug fixes in TCP reassembly code.
