What is sshuttle FOR MAC?

sshuttle

sshuttle is a neat little tool that acts like a simple proxy server, sort of like a budget-friendly VPN. It’s super easy to use and runs on Linux and Mac OS X. Plus, it helps with DNS tunneling too!

What Makes sshuttle Special?

This tool shines in some specific situations:

  • Your device is running on Linux, FreeBSD, or MacOS.

  • You can access a remote network through ssh.

  • You don’t have admin rights on that remote network.

  • The remote network doesn’t have a VPN or has complicated ones like IPsec or PPTP.

  • You’re tired of setting up port forwards for every single host/port.

  • You find openssh’s port forwarding slow and frustrating.

  • You can’t use openssh’s PermitTunnel feature because it’s usually turned off by default, plus it messes with performance.

A Quick Warning for Mac Users

Heads up! If you’re using MacOS 10.6 (up to 10.6.6), you might run into an issue where your network stops responding after about ten minutes of using sshuttle. This happens due to a kernel bug related to arp settings. To fix it, just toggle your wireless off and then back on. Don’t worry; sshuttle makes the change permanent so you won’t have to do this again even after restarting!

Why Use sshuttle?

If you're looking for something straightforward that doesn't require admin access or complicated setups, then give sshuttle a try! It keeps things simple while helping you connect safely and efficiently.
