What is SpeedReader FOR LINUX?

SpeedReader

SpeedReader is a neat tool that helps you boost your reading speed. It’s:

  • Simple,

  • Interesting,

  • Challenging, and

  • Fun to play with!

If you're a developer, you’ll love that SpeedReader is super extensible with plugins and designed to keep things as simple as possible (but not too simple!). I only add features if they really help make SpeedReader better.

The Basics of SpeedReader

This handy software is written in Ruby and comes packed with several modules, each focusing on different parts of speed reading. Here’s what you can train on:

  • SpeedRead: This helps you train your comprehension skills. Plus, it’s a cool way to read large text files!

  • Flash: This one improves your eye span.

  • FlashWars: Want to have some fun? This game trains both comprehension and eye span. What’s your high score?

  • ReadTest: Use this to measure how fast you can read.

Limitations You Should Know About

Caution!

  • SpeedReader doesn’t work with FXRuby 1.2 (like in Debian unstable). You’ll want to switch back to FXRuby 1.0 for better stability.

  • You can close the high score window by hitting the ESC key.

  • If you can't start SpeedReader anymore, it might be due to a corrupted config file. Just delete the .speedreader file from your home directory (for Windows users, look in C:Documents and Settingsyourusername).

  • The mini-overview window has issues when dealing with very large files (around 2 MB).

  • Please note that SpeedReader might be slow when loading big files.

What’s New in This Release?

The latest version works fine in Fox 1.2, though there are still some issues with the image on the right side.
