SpamAssassin in a Box is a spam filter designed for Windows. The application contains the SpamAssassin filter and a Windows system service that enables users to control it from the local services.
The service monitors 'SpamD' daemon from the spam filter and performs constant updates to the anti-spam rules. It utilizes a series of spam tests that rate the e-mails.
Based on a scoring system, the application marks the likelihood of an e-mail being spam. This score can be utilized by the native program handling the e-mails (such as MTA - Message Transfer Agent), and a spam filter can be set up.
By connecting SpamAssassin in a Box with MTAs, users can extend this functionality to Microsoft Exchange or hMailServer. Most of the functions and modules are shaped as native Windows executables.
The application is fully compatible with Windows operating systems later than XP and Windows Server 2003. All important events are logged in Windows Event Log.
The spam filter can be controlled (restarted, stopped) from the Windows Service Control Manager (SCM), while other configurations can be made from the Windows Registry.
