Description
Spaces are useful for splitting your apps into multiple desktops for easier organization. However, without using Mission Control, you can easily lose track of which desktop you’re on.
With Spaceman, you can see all your active spaces in the menu bar, and the one in focus will be highlighted for easy identification. You have several styles to choose from, and the app is very easy to configure.
Normally, you need to open Mission Control to see all your spaces and know exactly which one is currently selected. This app lets you avoid Mission Control almost completely, save for creating the spaces in the first place.
You’ll see them all in the menu bar, and the focused one will be highlighted. They can be shown as basic rectangles, they can be numbered, and you can even assign names. It’s a simple solution, and it works pretty much perfectly.
Whichever style you go for, the spaces are listed from left to right, just like in Mission Control. If you have named them, the names will be visible when you open up the menu, regardless of the selected style.
Now, to switch to spaces from this menu, a couple of additional steps are required. The app needs accessibility access, and the configured shortcuts need to also be enabled from Keyboard Shortcuts in your system preferences. If you don’t follow these steps, clicking spaces in the menu will have no effect.
Spaceman really comes into its own when you work with more than just two or three spaces, which is when cycling between them can get confusing, at least without Mission Control. This app makes switching easier, and a quick glance at the menu bar will instantly tell you which space you’re on.
