SmartApp is a handy little tool for your OS X that helps you keep an eye on your traffic usage when you're connected to Wi-Fi. It's super simple and minimalist, showing your daily usage right in the status bar. But if you want the nitty-gritty details, just pop open the associated panel for more info!
To get started with SmartApp, make sure you're connected to a Wi-Fi network. Once you're online, the app will show you the hotspot name in its main panel. You’ll also see how much data you've used while on that network.
The cool part? You can check out your daily usage across all networks! Plus, it keeps track of how much traffic you've used since you launched the app. If you ever want to reset this data, just head over to the Settings menu and do it anytime!
Now, here’s something we noticed during our tests: SmartApp doesn’t stop tracking your traffic if you switch off Wi-Fi and use an Ethernet connection instead. This means if you're using both Wi-Fi and a cable connection at the same time, your stats might not be spot-on.
If this happens, just disable your Ethernet connection and clear out any tracking info before hopping back onto a Wi-Fi hotspot. It’s an easy fix!
If you click on the Applications tab within SmartApp's status bar panel, you'll see internet usage for each app. It lists out each app name along with its traffic details. This is super helpful because it lets you know which apps are using up more resources.
In conclusion, SmartApp is definitely a great tool to have if you're relying on Wi-Fi and need to watch your data usage closely. While it works well with multiple hotspots, remember that it's not as accurate if you're mixing in a cable connection.
