Description

simplewall

simplewall is an awesome tool that helps you take control of your network security. It works with the Windows Filtering Platform to let you filter out unwanted network data. With simplewall, you can change the default settings and set up filters to block specific processes, which helps keep malware at bay.

Getting Started with Simplewall

To kick things off, you'll need to install some filters. These filters are like a set of rules that tell your system which processes and services can access the network. While simplewall suggests turning off the Windows Firewall for better results, you can choose to keep it on if you want.

User-Friendly Controls

One cool feature of simplewall is how easy it is to control everything right from your tray menu. You don’t have to dig through menus in the main window! You can quickly switch between different security models like whitelist, blacklist, or even a ‘trust no one’ mode depending on what you need.

Customizing Your Network Access

You can really fine-tune which services get access to your network too. This includes options for DHCP, DNS, NTP, SNMP, SSDP, Windows Update, and more! Just remember that changing these settings will directly affect how your network connects.

Monitoring Network Access Requests

Whenever an app tries to connect to the network, it’ll notify simplewall first. It checks its rules and pops up a little window near your tray icon so you know what’s happening. Each request goes into the main window where you can see whether it’s a system app or something else entirely. You get to decide which apps should have internet access and which ones should be blocked!

Keeping Track of Blocked Packets

The cool part? Simplewall keeps track of everything! If any packets are blocked from accessing the network, they’re logged for later reference—super handy if you want to check what’s been stopped.

A Smarter Alternative for Network Security

If you're looking for an alternative to the regular Windows firewall filters, simplewall gives you full control over apps and processes that need internet access. It’s designed to automatically block malware and other unwanted data while letting you add custom rules for specific ports or IP addresses right from the 'Settings' window.
