Description

Share Clip

Share Clip is a handy little tool for anyone who juggles multiple computers at once. With this utility, you can easily share your clipboard between two machines. That means you can copy something on one computer and paste it on another without any hassle!

Compatibility with Multiple Systems

This awesome tool works on Linux/GTK 2, Mac OS X, and MS Windows. No matter what system you're using, Share Clip has got you covered. You can think of it as a bridge connecting your devices so they can communicate effortlessly.

How It Works

So, how does Share Clip work? Well, it's a small program that lets you share just the text portion of your clipboard between PCs, Macs, and Linux computers. This way, copying and pasting feels just like you're working on a single computer.

Getting Started with Share Clip

The best part? Share Clip is free! If you're curious about the source code, it’s based on RealBasic 2005 and can run smoothly across different platforms. If you have RealBasic and want to check out the source, feel free to shoot me an email!

Installation Made Easy

If you want to install it, simply untar the file using tar xzvf shareclip-linux-12.tar.gz. Then copy the ShareClip binary to /usr/local/bin, or wherever you like. It does depend on GTK 2 but should work fine otherwise.

Connecting Your Computers

After installing, launch Share Clip on both computers. Hit the Connect button and enter the hostname or IP address of the other machine. If everything goes well, you'll see "Connected to address" in the status line. Now your clipboards are synced!

Synchronization Details

This program checks your clipboard every 500 milliseconds—yep, five times a second! When something changes, it sends a quick message over the network. Just remember that only text gets sent; handling images or complex data is trickier across different systems.

An Update to Love!

What's New:

  • You now have proper UNICODE support! Copy smart quotes or euro signs back and forth without losing them.

  • The clipboard preview font is set to Courier since some older system fonts don’t support UTF8 characters well

  • You can see your local IP address right in the Share Clip window for easy connection.

  • Please note: I haven’t tested the Linux version thoroughly; if issues pop up, let me know!
