How to Use SetRes

To get started, use the following basic command format:

SETRES mX:Y hXXXX vXXXX bXX fXX n d

Breaking Down the Command

• mX:Y: This indicates the monitor number Y connected to adapter number X. Refer to the 'd' argument explanation below.


• hXXXX: Represents the horizontal size of the display in pixels.


• vXXXX: Shows the vertical size of the display.


• bXX: Specifies the bit depth, which determines the amount of colors visible on the screen. Options include 8 bits for 256 colors, as well as 16, 24, or 32 bits.


• fXX: Used for refresh frequency measured in Hertz, with common values like 60, 75, or 85 Hz. Consult your monitor's manual for optimal settings.


• n: If you prefer to skip the 'Press a key' prompt after an error report, use this option.


• d: Provides a list of display devices; simply use numbers for mX:Y.

No Stress with Defaults!

SetRes allows for all parameters to be optional, automatically setting default values based on the current monitor settings. In cases where mX:Y is not specified, the primary display is used by default.
