Screen Shooter is a cool little tool made for Yahoo! Widget Engine. It's lightweight and super handy because it lets you snap pictures right from your desktop. If you're a first-time user, don't worry! Installing and setting it up is a piece of cake since it's in WIDGET format.
The widget has a really tiny layout, which makes it easy to use. From the main window, you can pick how you want to capture your screen: full screen, a selected area, or just the window of the program you're using. Super flexible!
When you take a shot, you can decide how to save it. Screen Shooter lets you pick from JPG, BMP, GIF, TIF, and PNG formats! All you need to do is set where to save it and give it a name.
You can tweak some settings in the 'Widget Preferences' area. Want to change keyboard shortcuts for capturing? Go for it! You can also modify the default picture format and even adjust JPEG quality.
This widget is pretty nice because it doesn't hog your computer's resources. It uses very little CPU and memory, so you won't feel any slowdowns while using your computer.
But here's the catch: when capturing full screen images, there's an annoying 'Save As' window that pops up every time after taking a shot—it happens really fast! Unfortunately, there's no way to automatically save images to a specific location without that window showing up.
We ran into some errors when we tried canceling that 'Save As' window during our tests. Also, keep in mind that Screen Shooter doesn't let you include your mouse cursor in screenshots. And just so you're aware—the widget hasn't seen an update in ages; this might be because of Yahoo! Widget Engine being discontinued.
If you're looking for something simple yet effective for taking screenshots on your desktop, give Screen Shooter a try!
