Description

Safer Work

Safer Work is a cool software that helps keep your computer safe. Just a heads up, it's free for personal use, but if you’re using it for work or at school, you’ll need to grab a paid license. The unlicensed version will protect all users on the computer, while the full version lets you set up protections for individual profiles. You can even add specific restrictions for certain users!

Features of Safer Work

This software is great for system admins and advanced users. It’s unique because it lets you block and limit which programs can run on your machine. The main features are super easy to understand and come with their own switches:

  • Enable Whitelist Protection

  • Enable Firewall Protection (All Users)

  • Restrict Admin

Whitelisting Software

The first feature lets you activate software whitelisting. By default, three directories are whitelisted: C:\Windows, C:\Program Files, and C:\Program Files (x86). This means you can run pretty much any software from these spots! There are also some user-writable directories that automatically get added to the whitelist, but don’t worry—you can customize this list if needed.

Firewall and User Control Settings

The second feature is simple; it limits open ports to just the local subnet. For the third feature, enabling it changes how User Account Control (UAC) works. It allows all administrative rights when turned on. However, if you're using an older computer running Windows XP, you'll miss out on these last two features.

User-Friendly Design

Even though Safer Work mainly offers protection by tweaking your system's registry database, it's pretty user-friendly overall. The interface isn’t flashy but does its job well with a clean layout in a compact window. You’ll find two main tabs: User Management and Safer Configuration.

User Management Tab

In the User Management tab, you can check logs, turn on all those cool features we talked about earlier, and pick from a surprisingly wide selection of themes for the GUI! In the Safer Configuration tab, you can whitelist scripts along with several types of exceptions like SRPDirs and SPRSysUtilExceptions.

Conclusion

If you're looking for an app that keeps your Windows PC secure—especially in places like schools or libraries—Safer Work has got your back! Just one little note: both its Help section and License Agreement part in the installer are in German.
