Description

rTorrent

rTorrent is a command line BitTorrent client that lets you download torrents right from your Terminal. What’s cool about it is that you can handle multiple torrents at once and even save your sessions!

How to Install rTorrent

If you want to get started with rTorrent, the first step is to compile the application. Open up your Terminal window, go to the folder where you've stored the rTorrent source code, and type .\/configure. After that, just hit enter on make, followed by make install.

Requirements for Installation

Before diving in, make sure you have the Xcode command line tools installed on your Mac. This is important if you want those commands to work smoothly. If you run into any issues, don’t worry! You can use Homebrew to speed things up.

Launching rTorrent

Once everything is set up and installed, launch rTorrent by typing rtorrent in the Terminal window. If you're looking for more details about how to use it, check out the online rTorrent User Guide. It has all the info on supported commands and available tools!

Torrent Management Features

The great thing about rTorrent is its flexibility when it comes to managing your downloads. You can add a torrent using its URL or file path, change where files get saved, pause or stop downloads whenever you need to, and even kick off a torrent hash check.

User-Friendly Views

This tool also offers different view modes like Downloads list, Peers list, Files list, Tracker list, and a main view. Switching between them is super easy; just use your arrow keys!

A Note for New Users

If you’re new to this kind of stuff—like compiling source code apps or working with Xcode—you might find installing rTorrent a bit tricky at first. But if you're comfortable using Terminal and want a straightforward way to download torrents without any graphical interface (GUI), then rTorrent could be just what you're looking for!
