RsyncOSX is a super easy tool that gives you a simple way to back up your files, whether you're saving them on your computer or on a remote server. It uses the rsync command-line tool in the background, but don’t worry—you won’t have to deal with any complicated commands!
This software is powerful yet user-friendly. While it doesn't cover every single option of rsync, it still gets the job done without a headache.
The first thing you do with RsyncOSX is tell it which files you want to back up. You can choose both the source and output folders, and if you're backing up to a remote server, you’ll need to put in your login details.
A little heads-up: RsyncOSX doesn’t let you pick individual files; it only works with whole folders. But no stress—it will only transfer what's inside those folders! Plus, when you back up, it clears out everything else in the output folder so that only your chosen files are there afterward.
You can check out all your backup tasks anytime and change their settings if needed. And get this—RsyncOSX creates an automatic restore task for each backup task. So not only can you back things up, but restoring them is also just as easy!
Once you've got everything set up, head over to the RsyncOSX Run panel. You can check off the jobs you want to run and see when they were last executed right next to each task.
You can run single tasks or even batch process multiple jobs at once! Before anything starts transferring, you'll get a prompt asking for confirmation. After each job finishes, you'll see notifications letting you know it's done. Just remember though—there’s no scheduling feature in RsyncOSX.
In short, RsyncOSX makes it simple to use rsync for backing up and restoring files from local or remote storage without having to open Terminal at all! The interface is pretty straightforward too; creating new tasks feels like a breeze! Just keep in mind that you'll need to start these jobs manually.
