RSS Bot is a handy little app for Mac that helps you keep up with new articles from your favorite RSS feeds without messing up your workflow. It hangs out in your status bar and gives you audio and visual notifications whenever something new pops up. When you're ready to read, just click the menu to open the articles in your default web browser.

Getting Started with RSS Bot

The first time you open RSS Bot, it takes you straight to the Preferences window where you can start adding your own RSS feeds. This app has some basic tools for managing those feeds, plus it even lets you import OPML files if you've got a bunch of feeds saved already.

Custom Notifications Just for You

One cool feature of RSS Bot is that it lets you set up multiple filters for each feed. This means you'll only see notifications for new articles that match your chosen keywords. So, if you're interested in specific topics, your RSS Bot menu will only show items that suit your taste!

Easy Article Management

Selecting a title from the RSS Bot menu is super easy! The app automatically sends the URL to your default browser and clears it from the menu. If you're not feeling like reading something right now, no worries! Just hit the “Mark All as Read” button, and they’ll be cleared out.

Tweaking Your Preferences

You can also make some small tweaks in the Preferences window. Want to change the notification sound? Go for it! You can highlight the status icon, set how long before items are marked as read, or choose which RSS reader app you want to use by default.

Limitations of RSS Bot

However, it's worth noting that RSS Bot doesn’t sync across devices and doesn’t let you batch mark specific articles as read at once. So if that's a deal-breaker for you, just keep that in mind!
