What is ROMBrowser FOR LINUX?

ROMBrowser

ROMBrowser is a cool tool for keeping your emulator ROMs organized. If you’ve ever tried to sort through thousands of ROM files, you know it can be a headache! This handy software helps identify ROM files by their CRC and provides details like the game title and its parent ROM. Plus, it lets you organize everything with different filters to make your life easier.

Why You Need ROMBrowser

If you're into gaming with emulators, you've probably faced the struggle of figuring out what you've just downloaded. That’s exactly why ROMBrowser exists! The ultimate goal is to create a system similar to romcenter, but based on Java and open-source with GPL licensing.

Future Plans for ROMBrowser

The creator has some exciting plans ahead! They want to develop a schema for storing meta-data related to all those ROM files. Right now, there are many databases that track information about ROMs using their CRC32 keys. The aim is to set up an open standard for this data (probably using XML DTD) and create a way for users to classify unknown ROMs and share that info.

What's New in This Release?

  • Added support for Super Nintendo SMC files (still working on interleaved files).

  • Separated data files from the main distribution and added credits tags in the XML database so everyone gets recognition.

  • The ROM info viewer got a makeover! Now it's displayed in a table view, plus you can modify the ROM data, which saves changes in knownfiles.xml.

  • The file search function has been improved; only files with handlers (like NES and SMC) will be processed now.

  • The file converter has been upgraded for better compatibility with romcenter DAT files.

  • You can delete specific ROMs from the treeview; this will remove them from knownfiles too!

  • If you delete folders from the treeview, their child entries will remain intact in knownfiles.

  • The way rominfo files are handled has changed— if there are colons in the datafile property, it’ll treat it as multiple datafiles.
