RMS Sharing is a handy application for Windows created by Microsoft. It lets you protect and share documents safely with others. If you want to use this service, you'll need to sign up for an RMS-enabled account at this link. And guess what? It's totally free!
Just a quick heads up: the RMS service doesn't work with Microsoft accounts like Live, Hotmail, or Outlook.com. Make sure you register using a different email address.
If you're using the RMS Sharing app on OS X, keep in mind that it can't protect files. Instead, it only lets you view files protected by Windows users.
This app can open specific file types including .ppdf, .ptxt, .pxml, .pjpg, .pjpeg, .ppng, .ptiff, .pgif, .pbmp, and .pfile files. On the other hand, Windows users have more options when it comes to protecting different file formats.
Using RMS Sharing on your Mac is super easy! Just drag and drop the protected files onto the RMS Sharing icon or select the Open option from the app’s File menu. The first time you do this, you'll need to enter your credentials for your RMS-enabled account.
Once you're in the app and have opened your file, you'll see it in the main window. At the top of that window, you can check your current permissions status—pretty straightforward!
In short, RMS Sharing lets OS X users view certain file types protected by Windows users using Microsoft's Right Management service. It's an easy way to stay secure while sharing documents!
