Description

reposurgeon

reposurgeon is a totally free and open-source command-line tool built in Python. It's made to help app developers tweak the history of their version control repositories. Pretty cool, right?

Edit Your Commit History

This handy software lets you edit past comments and metadata, plus it can even remove commits if you need to tidy things up. It supports all the popular version control systems out there, like Git, Bazaar, Subversion, CVS, Mercurial, and RCS.

Scripting Made Easy

One of the neat features of reposurgeon is that it can read Subversion dump files. This means you can use it to script super high-quality conversions from Subversion (SVN) to any supported distributed version control system (DVCS). Talk about versatility!

Getting Started with reposurgeon

If you're on a GNU/Linux system and want to use reposurgeon, you'll first need to download it from Softpedia or its official site (check the link at the end!). It comes as a gzipped source tarball (TAR archive).

Installation Steps

Once you've got the archive saved on your computer, unpack it using your favorite archive manager. Next, open up your terminal emulator and navigate to where those extracted files are using the ‘cd’ command. For example: cd /home/softpedia/reposurgeon-3.17.

No Configuration Needed!

The best part? You don’t need to mess around with configuration or compilation because an executable is already included in the archive! Just run it with ./reposurgeon, then type ‘help’ at the command prompt for a list of options.

A Variety of Commands

reposurgeon comes loaded with various commands. To find out what each one does, just type in help , replacing with whatever command you want more info about.

The Magic Behind reposurgeon

If you're curious about how it works under the hood, know that it's written in Python! This makes it portable and able to run smoothly on any UNIX-like operating system—think GNU/Linux, Solaris, or BSD. Plus, it's easy to optimize for both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware architectures (you can check out the README file inside the source archive for more details).
