Description

RemoveOnReboot - Secure File Deletion Software

Even if a computer is not connected to the Internet, it does not mean files or system integrity are completely safe. Malicious intentions can come both from prying eyes and apps that can be delivered via LAN or removable storage devices. Locking a file can increase security, but also alters user permissions, with the possibility to eternally get stuck within on the hard disk drive. However, applications like RemoveOnReboot help in this regard, aiming to safely remove any kind of file and folder.

Key Features:

  • Quick and Easy Installation

  • Context Menu Integration for Easy Access

  • Ability to Remove Files Permanently

Technical Specifications:

  • File: RemoveOnRebootSetup.exe

  • Publisher: CurioLab

  • Price: Free

It only takes a matter of seconds to see what the application is capable of, from the moment you download it. No setup is required, running the executable automatically adds a context menu entry that enables you to trigger its core function.

However, the application leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to practicability. Of course, it cleverly blends with Windows features in the "Send to" menu and only requires you to press a few mouse clicks, but it does not get the job done in all situations.

File Removal Process:

After sending desired files to the specific menu entry, a message prompts you with details regarding the number of files successfully handled, as well as the status that upon the next system restart, chosen files are no more.

Unfortunately, using the application on folders triggers no result, even if there are no sub-folders within and just files. What's more, features also cease to function if the user permission level is altered or simply if the file is currently running.

If you happen to successfully trigger the process, be sure about your decision because files are removed on the spot, without the possibility to cancel, reverse the process, or find them in the Recycle Bin.

Efficiency and Limitations:

To sum it up, RemoveOnReboot is merely a delete function integrated into the "Send to" menu that is not even as efficient as the normal process. Locked files appear to remain intact, and even if a simple document is open, the application is incapable of brutally closing and getting rid of it. Successful attempts permanently remove items, without even a confirmation prompt in case you're having second thoughts.
