Description

Rclone is an excellent open-source command-line tool for managing cloud storage accounts.

Apart from being very fast, Rclone has a lot of other things going for it. It's also free, it comes with support for over 40 cloud storage products, and it works on all major OSes out there such as Linux, Windows, and Mac.

If the whole "command-line" thing is not for you, don't worry, there are some alternatives. One very good alternative is an app called Rclone Shuttle.

Rclone Shuttle is a free, open-source, and still very much experimental Rclone GUI. In short, Rclone Shuttle provides quick access to all your cloud-stored files from the comforts of most Linux desktops.

With its help, you can upload files (even via drag and drop), open remote files locally, rename, move, copy, and delete files and folders, as well as handle encrypted Rclone-specific configuration files.

Because Rclone Shuttle is based on Rclone, it's important to note that Rclone must be present on your system for the app to work. One of the best parts of Rclone Shuttle is that it too supports a wide range of cloud storage protocols/services.

The list includes Amazon S3, Dropbox, Google Cloud Storage, Google Drive, Google Photos, OneDrive, Proton Drive, SFTP, SMB, FTP, and WebDAV, just to name a few.

Rclone Shuttle is fully written in Rust, which means that platform and architecture-specific builds can be easily generated. The main distribution mechanism for Linux is, unsurprisingly, Flathub.

Setting up a new configuration for Rclone Shuttle does involve a bit of Terminal work, but there's no need to worry since the whole process is very streamlined. The process requires you to choose a type of storage you want to configure, select the type of access you want to provide Rclone Shuttle with, and a quick login procedure (using the system's default browser).

As mentioned before, Rclone Shuttle is not yet a matured product. Still, I had fun using it, and the app is very usable and useful in its current state. It may not be the perfect solution for all Rclone users out there, but I found it perfect for my simple needs (which mainly revolve around the most common tasks).
