What is RasPlex FOR LINUX?

RasPlex is an open source and freely distributed software project whose main goal is to provide users with a port of the famous Plex Home Theater software on the Raspberry Pi mini computer. It can be used to connect to a Plex Media Server app and watch movies on a connected TV.

It’s a community driven project lead by Dale Hamel, with some extra help from several members of the Plex community. It supports Linux, Microsoft Windows and Max OS X operating systems.

The software is available for download as an IMG file archived with the GZ compression method. Download the latest release from either Softpedia or the project’s official website (see the homepage link at the end of the article), save the archive on your computer and unpack it.

Write the extracted IMG file to a SD flash drive with an application that supports writing these type of image files to USB devices. Please note that you will need a SD card of 1GB or higher capacity.

To start RasPlex, run as root (system administrator) with the SD card inserted and unmounted in your Raspberry Pi. Please keep in mind that it must be run in an X11 session on an existing 64-bit GNU/Linux operating system.
