Description

Randon number generators (RNGs) are not a novelty. They're used for everything like gambling and gaming matchmaking, up to computer simulation, cryptography, and statistical sampling.

There are tons of easy-to-access and good random number generator apps on the web, but having one installed on your system can prove to be the more accessible option.

Randon Number Five is one such random number generator app. It's a Linux-only app and it's free and open-source. The app is fully written in Python and makes use of GTK4 and the GNOME framework.

Random Number Five can be used to create randomly generated numbers between any configurable range (from 0 to 1,000,000). The GUI is "wonderfully simple." There's a big "Generate" button at the bottom and a few controllers for setting up the randomizer range.

Once you hit the Generate button, the app displays a randomly generated number at the top of the GUI, but the randomizer range selectors remain in place, in case you want to tweak the range on the fly, and that's really about it.

At the end of the day, Random Number Five is a very simple app and, to be honest, I would have loved to see some more options. For example, the ability to generate unique numbers, the ability to tweak the duplicate number count, or even an option for odd and even numbers.

The easiest way to install the app is to head over to Flathub. Alternatively, you can manually install it from flatpak with the following command "'flatpak install flathub io.github.FailurePoint.RandomNumberFive'." Of course, you can also built it yourself using the GNOME Builder app. Simply go to Open Project, select Clone Repository, enter the app's repository URL (https://github.com/FalurePoint/RandomNumber5), and click the Clone button.
