RadLog
RadLog is a handy set of programs designed to gather and log readings from various radiation detectors made by Black Cat Systems. It might even work with other types of detectors, which is pretty cool!
How the Server Program Works
The server program jumps into action by opening all the serial ports on your computer and starts recording readings from them right away. It’s like having a personal assistant that never sleeps!
Sending Readings Over the Network
Want to share those readings? The server can send out data every second using UDP packets over your network. To make this happen, you just need to enter a port number in the Port field. If you don’t type anything in the broadcast field, it will automatically use the default broadcast address for your computer's first network interface.
Customizing Your Network Interface
If you have multiple network interfaces, you can type in something different here to switch things up! This is super helpful if you're working with more than one connection.
Logging Data Every Minute
Every minute, RadLog writes a line of text into a file called OUTPUT.TXT. The first column in this file shows the date and time stamp, while additional columns represent each channel, neatly tab-delimited for easy reading.
The Client Program
If you want to check out the readings on another computer within the same network, you can run the client program there! It catches those UDP packets from the server and displays them while also logging everything into its text file.
