Description

Pytomo

Pytomo is a handy tool that helps you analyze how fast YouTube videos download. It’s built on Python, so it’s pretty cool for anyone who loves coding or just wants to know more about their video experience.

Getting Started with Pytomo

First things first, you’ll pick a list of videos to analyze. You can choose from the most popular ones of the day, week, month, year, or even all-time! Once you've got your list ready, Pytomo gets to work.

How Does Pytomo Work?

The tool starts by finding the IP addresses of the cache servers where those videos are stored. After that, it sends a ping to these servers to check their Round Trip Time (RTT). This helps us understand how quickly data is traveling.

Measuring Download Performance

Next up, Pytomo attempts to download the video for a short period. This allows it to gather important stats about the download process. For instance, it can track any interruptions you might experience while watching. It’s like having your own little performance tracker!

Important Note for Users

NOTE: If you're using an HTTP proxy and want to run Pytomo smoothly, you'll need to launch it from the command line. On Windows, just open cmd and navigate (using cd) to where Pytomo is located. Then run this command:

dist/pytomo_system_machine --http-proxy='http://my_proxy.my_adress.my_ext:8080'

This assumes your proxy name is my_proxy.my_adress.my_ext, and it uses port 8080.
