How Does It Work?

The Unix "purge" command helps boost the "Free" memory on your Mac. You can check this in Apple's Activity Monitor under the system memory tab. What it does is clear out the "Inactive" memory, making more space for your apps to run smoothly.

You could do this all by typing the purge command in a Terminal window, but having Purge Memory on your desktop is way easier than messing with Terminal every time!

Using Purge Memory

To get started, just double-click the app. It runs quickly and then closes itself. There's no complicated user interface to worry about—just a simple click and you're good to go!

Where Can You Store It?

You can keep the Purge Memory application anywhere on your hard drive. Just a heads up, though: some versions of OS X might need you to have Developer Tools installed for everything to work right. The Unix executable can be found in /usr/bin.
