Prismstumbler is a handy tool for discovering wireless LANs (WLAN). It’s like having a radar for Wi-Fi signals! This software scans for beacon frames coming from access points to help you find networks around you.
So, how does it work? Well, Prismstumbler constantly switches between channels and keeps an eye on the frames it receives on the selected channel. It’s pretty cool because it helps gather lots of info about wireless LAN setups.
This tool comes with a simple GTK2 frontend that makes it easy to use. Plus, it's small enough to fit on a portable system, so you can take it with you anywhere!
What’s awesome is that Prismstumbler has a client-server architecture. This means its scanner engine can be used with different frontends. A great example is gpe-aerial, which is another wireless LAN access tool for GPE.
The current GTK user interface looks good on both big PC screens and smaller PDA displays. Also, Prismstumbler uses an embedded SQL database to store all the network information it gathers.
If that's not enough, it can create network lists in GPSdrive format and save captured packets into pcap dump files. This makes it super versatile for anyone needing Wi-Fi insight!
