Description

A list of prime numbers is one click away with online generators, but an offline application might be preferable to many. PrimePlus delivers a console-based software utility ready to generate lists of prime numbers using the Segmented Sieve method.

The method that PrimePlus uses to generate prime numbers ca divide a range of numbers into different segments to be able to compute prime numbers in each interval. Using this algorithm, PrimePlus can generate prime numbers up to several hundred trillion, as stated by its developers.

On the other hand, for smaller numbers less than 20000, PrimePlus can be configured to use the Simple Sieve method.

PrimePlus features parallel processing, which increases its performance and, what is more, can be used as a benchmark tool to test how long it takes for the CPU to load against a single number.

During our tests, smaller numbers entered as parameters generated the statistics almost instantly =, while processing an integer interval for a large number took a while to complete. For example, a number of 1 billion took a little over four seconds to finish. The larger the number, the more time it takes to complete the analysis.

It is worth mentioning from the start that PrimePlus does not feature a standard interface. Instead, it only works via the command console, allowing you to get statistics about the number of prime numbers in a selected interval and even generate a list of all the prime numbers on screen.

You get a complete list of all the available commands of PrimePlus in its extended help, which you can access by using the “-h” or “--help” command.
The syntax is rather simple, as it only requires you to enter the upper limit of the interval PrimePlus will divide into segments. Additional options used as parameters can return various information.

Aside from getting statistics about the prime numbers in an interval, PrimePlus can also test whether a number is prime or not and even generate the prime factors for a given integer value.

PrimePlus can help you check out the number of primes in an interval and even see all of them, test whether a number is prime or not and generate prime factors. Using paallel processing, it can apply the Segmented Sieve method rather quickly, depending on how high the value is. Although it only works via the command console and it bundles no options to export the output, it can be a handy tool for those on the lookout for a prime number generator.
