PPSSPP is a super cool PSP emulator for macOS that lets you easily install and play games made for the Sony Playstation Portable. With PPSSPP, you can load games from your local files or even grab some from the Homebrew store!
Before you dive into gaming, make sure you've got the SDL framework set up on your Mac. The easiest way to do this is through Homebrew, which is a package installer.
You’ll need to kick things off by installing Homebrew. Just open your Terminal app and enter this command:
ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
If you don’t have the Command Line Tools for Xcode, don’t worry! You’ll be prompted to install them automatically. Just follow the steps, and macOS will handle everything.
After Homebrew is installed, type “brew install sdl2” in the Terminal. Once that’s done, you’re all set to run the PPSSPP application!
Once you're in PPSSPP, you can browse through your drive and add PSP games from your local archives or check out the Homebrew Store for more options.
You can start any game in your collection and control it using your keyboard. Plus, if you're looking to customize things a bit, head over to the settings menu where you can map controls just how you like them.
This same area lets you adjust graphics and audio settings, manage saved sessions, and check out system info—all super handy stuff!
In short, PPSSPP makes it easy to run PSP games on your Mac while also giving you tools to manage your gaming library. Ready to get started? You can download it here!
