What is Portico?

Portico is a super cool, cross-platform, open-source HLA Run-Time Infrastructure (RTI) that’s fully supported. It was built to make things modular and flexible, which is awesome for the simulation and training community. Basically, it gives you everything you need to run HLA federations without any hassle.

What Interfaces Does Portico Support?

When it comes to interfaces, Portico has got your back! It supports multiple HLA options for both Java and C++, including HLA 1.3 (Java and C++), IEEE-1516 (Java), and IEEE-1516e (Java and C++). That means you can choose what works best for your project!

Getting Started with Java

If you're diving into Java, good news: the JRE comes bundled with Portico! Just remember, if you're writing federates, you'll need to have the JDK set up on your machine too. No big deal, right?

C++ Compatibility

For all the C++ fans out there, Portico is totally cross-platform! It works on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. If you're using Windows, you’ll find some handy pre-packaged libraries like VC8, VC9, and VC10 waiting for you.

Sample Federates Included

To make life easier as you start using Portico, they’ve included some sample federates in the download package. These are super helpful for setting everything up correctly. Plus, you'll get example HLA code that makes getting started a breeze.
