Description

PortableNotary

PortableNotary is a Java-based tool that helps you check PDF signatures and keep your important documents safe with a password. This way, you can protect them from anyone else using the same computer. Plus, it makes transferring files over removable storage devices or the Internet super secure.

Easy to Use

If you've got Java installed on your computer, you're good to go! You don't need to set up anything fancy. Just download the executable file and save it wherever you want—on your hard drive or even a USB flash drive. Then, you can run it on any PC that has Java.

No Mess, No Fuss

This software is great because it doesn't mess with your system registry or create files without asking first. When you're done using it, all you have to do is delete the .exe file to uninstall it!

Simple Interface

The interface of PortableNotary is pretty straightforward. It features a standard window layout where you can easily navigate through files using the built-in file browser. You can open and view PDF documents right there in the app.

Password Protection Made Easy

Once you've opened a PDF file, a dialog box will pop up asking for the keystore password you'd like to use for protecting your document. After entering that, you'll be able to check out the file signature and even change the keystore password or path if needed.

Performance Insights

Now, here's something to note: PortableNotary hasn't been updated in quite some time and didn't play nicely with the latest version of Java Runtime Environment during our tests. However, it worked fine with an older version without causing any issues like crashes or errors. It also doesn't require much CPU or RAM, so it's not going to slow down your system.

A Straightforward Solution

In summary, while PortableNotary may not have all the bells and whistles you'd find in other software and isn't compatible with the newest Java release, it still offers a simple way to password-protect PDF files and verify their signatures.
