What is peinfo?

peinfo

Peinfo is one of those simple apps that really packs a punch! It's a lightweight tool that helps you grab info about portable executable files. And guess what? It doesn't just work with EXE files; it also supports DLL and SYS formats. Pretty handy, right?

How to Use Peinfo

Now, here's the thing: peinfo doesn’t have a fancy graphical user interface (GUI). Instead, you’ll be running it from the Windows console. All you need to do is type in its location and use the input file path as a parameter. Easy peasy!

What Information Can You Get?

So, what can peinfo actually tell you? It starts off by reading important details like file code signing info, product numbers, and version numbers. You'll get a neat list showing the software name, its size in bytes, and even which system architecture it was built for.

Diving Deeper into Details

If you're curious about more technical stuff, peinfo also reveals information like image base details, subsystem data, and an application’s checksum. This checksum helps you check if the file is still intact!

Additions You Might Find Interesting

You’ll also see extra details about things like the operating system version and image version. Plus, if they’re available, you'll get to know about the PDB signature and link date too! Unfortunately, saving or exporting this data isn’t an option. But don’t worry—you can easily copy and paste everything straight from the console window!

If you're ready to check it out yourself, make sure to download peinfo here!
