PeerBlock is a handy app designed to keep your computer safe from unsecured locations. It does this by blocking unwanted access, so your sensitive data stays protected. The cool part? It's super easy to use!

Getting Started with PeerBlock

When you first start PeerBlock, a wizard pops up to help you set things up. You can choose what types of connections you want to block. This can include peer-to-peer networks (P2P), ads, spyware, or even educational institutions. Pretty neat, right?

Customizing Your Blocks

If the default settings aren’t quite right for you, no worries! You can import or create your own lists of what to block. Plus, if there are certain connections that you always want to allow—like those using ports 80 and 443—you can set that up too, even if they’re on the blacklist.

Keeping Everything Up-to-Date

Before finishing the setup, you can also tell PeerBlock how often it should check for updates—whether that’s daily or weekly for itself and its lists.

User-Friendly Interface

The main window of PeerBlock shows all sorts of info like connection time, range, source, destination, and protocol for each connection. Turning PeerBlock on or off is as easy as clicking a button.

History and Custom Settings

You’ll also find options to view past activity or clear out old logs. Want to tweak the settings for notifications or how the log window looks? You can do that too! Plus, you have the option to make PeerBlock start automatically when your computer boots up and run minimized in the system tray.

Performance Matters

The best part? PeerBlock doesn’t hog your CPU or memory. It’s super responsive whether you're typing or clicking around. During our tests, we didn’t experience any crashes or annoying error messages.

A Note on Updates

One thing to keep in mind is that PeerBlock hasn’t had an update in a while. But don’t let that scare you away! Its user-friendly design makes it easy enough for anyone to figure out quickly—even if you're not a tech whiz.
