What is Page2RSS?

Page2RSS

Page2RSS is a handy little tool that helps you keep an eye on changes happening on any web page you choose. It creates a temporary RSS file right on your local PC using a template, and then you can subscribe to this newsfeed. Pretty cool, right?

How to Use Page2RSS

If you're wondering how to use page2rss.exe, here’s the scoop:

  • [target-rss]

  • [default|template-file]

  • [title]

  • [/?]

Understanding the Options

Here's what each of these options means:

  • source: This is the URL of the page you're checking. It can even be a local file.

  • compare-to: This is your last checked copy of the source URL.

  • target-rss: This will be your resulting RSS feed saved as a local file.

  • default-rss: If you don’t have a custom template, this one uses the internal default RSS feed template.

  • template-file: This option lets you use your own RSS feed template that you've saved locally.

  • title: Here’s where you put in the title of the checked URL, which will show up in your resulting RSS feed.

  • /?: Need help? This option will guide you!

Your Template Macros

You can spice things up with some template macros:

  • %1 - This stands for either the given title or the name of your source file.

  • %2 - Here’s your source URL.

  • %3 - Current date and time in GMT format.

  • %4 - Current date and time in your local format.

  • %5 - The domain from your source URL.

A Quick Note on Results

If there are any changes detected, you'll get an exit code of 0. But if nothing has changed, expect an exit code greater than 0. Easy peasy!
