P3X OneNote is getting a lot of love from users who want to use OneNote on Linux. Why? Well, it’s known as one of the best note-taking apps, and it’s super handy for creating all kinds of notes—whether they’re simple or more detailed. Plus, it makes it easy to organize and share your notes.
So, here's the deal: OneNote is available on just about any device through a browser or official apps. But if you’re using Linux, you're kinda out of luck since Microsoft doesn’t provide an official app for that platform.
If you rely on OneNote for your work but find it tricky to manage in a browser along with all your other tabs, P3X OneNote might be just what you need. It's not an official client but works as a desktop version that wraps around the web interface.
The biggest perk of P3X OneNote is that it runs outside of any browser. This means you can log in with both personal and business accounts without hassle. It even updates itself automatically! Plus, you can access other Microsoft online apps without jumping through hoops.
P3X also offers a Dark Mode option! While this isn’t officially supported by Microsoft, many users appreciate having this feature available.
Now, while the developer claims that data caches faster than when using a browser, keep in mind that OneNote isn't exactly speedy to begin with. With an Electron wrapper added in, patience is key for quick tasks or transitions within the app.
P3X OneNote has great potential and could be super useful for anyone who needs to use OneNote separately from their web browser on Linux. Just remember that it's still being developed and there are some known issues (which you can check out in the app's GitHub repository). The Electron framework does come with limitations too, so keep those in mind when using the app.
