Description
If you ask one hundred people what the most annoying aspect of gaming on Linux is, you'll probably get one hundred different answers. While it's true that things have evolved a lot during the last decade, there's still a long way to go.
One very annoying issue with gaming on Linux is, of course, the lack of or the potential instability of Discord's Overlay feature. A quick Google search is bound to... turn into an even bigger Google search, but there's no guarantee you'll be able to fully fix all the issues with Discord's Overlay on Linux systems.
That's precisely why you might want to try Overlayed.
Overlayed is a modern, free, and open-source voice chat overlay for Discord. The whole point of the app is to provide Discord users with a functional overlay feature (very similar to Discord's original one) on all major platforms - Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Flexibility is also a big aspect of Overlayed. The app is built using Tauri (a modern Rust framework) which means the app is fast, and the overlay it provides is movable (and pinnable, but more on that later).
Another cool aspect of Overlayed is that it's compatible with almost every game (and most apps). In terms of features, the app provides a basic interactive user list so you can see who's speaking, who's muted, and so forth, and the app's GUI is "pinnable" (meaning it has an Always-on-top option).
The app's GUI is also transparent (which means the overlay ignores mouse clicks, just like the original Discord overlay). Last but not least, you're provided with a join history feature that allows you to see who enters or leaves a voice chat channel.
For more information about the app, you can check out the official GitHub repository. There's also a neat Installation Guide worth glancing over.
