Description
Osm2garmin is a free and open-source utility that allows you to download OpenStreetMap data for the whole planet, update existing planet data, add terrain contours generated from SRTM3 database and generate garmin-compatible maps in a single step.
The application wraps following OpenStreetMap processing utilities: Osmosis, Tile Splitter and Mkgmap. A utility similar to Srtm2osm program has been developed as a part of this application.

Osm2garmin is cross-platform and it works on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. Binaries for the Windows and Linux platforms are available on the project's homepage.
