What is Orbit Xplorer?

Orbit Xplorer

Orbit Xplorer is an awesome physics educational software that’s perfect for high school, college, and university students. It’s also a cool tool for amateur astronomers and physicists! With this orbit simulator, you can dive into lab exercises focused on gravitational physics. You can explore things like elliptical orbits, double stars, escape velocity, Kepler's third law, Lagrange points, and even the tricky three-body problem.

Fun with Gravity and Orbits

This educational simulator lets you play around with the orbits of 2 to 10 bodies. You can input their mass, radius, coordinates, and velocity components either by typing them in or just dragging and dropping predefined bodies right into the simulation. Once you've set it up, sit back and watch how these orbits change under their mutual gravitational attractions. Plus, you can save your work and print out your simulations!

Perfect for Lab Exercises

Orbit Xplorer is great for doing lab exercises in gravitational physics or even checking your answers from textbook problems. The software comes loaded with 29 pre-made simulations ranging from beginner to advanced levels! You’ll find simulations covering everything from geocentric to heliocentric views of our solar system.

Amazing Features Awaiting You

You’ll get to plot orbits in both 2D and 3D views! As you simulate different scenarios, you can keep track of time, distance, speed, acceleration, energy changes – basically everything happening in real-time! Feel free to adjust the simulation speed based on your computer’s performance. Oh! And guess what? You can even run up to four simulations at once!

What Can You Do?

  • Calculate and plot the orbits of up to 10 interacting bodies.

  • Create your own orbit simulation easily.

  • View key metrics like time and energy.

  • Create graphs showing distance versus time.

  • Run multiple simulations simultaneously!

System Requirements

Requirements:

  • Pentium processor (400 MHz recommended).

  • 32 MB RAM.

  • 16-bit color or better.

  • This works on a Mac PC emulator too!

A Few Limitations

Please Note:

  • You can only run one simulation at a time for twenty seconds.

  • The print feature is disabled in this version.
