Right off the bat, let’s clear something up: Opera Neon isn’t just an upgrade of the Opera browser you might already know and love. Nope! This one is branded as a "concept browser" by its developers, and for good reason.
So, what’s the deal with Opera Neon? It’s a completely new web browser built on Chromium, made to show off what web browsing could look like in the future. Whether it actually impresses you or not really depends on what you want from your browser.
This browser shines with its simplicity and modern design. It offers smooth transitions thanks to a special physics engine, along with some features that make you wonder why other browsers don’t have them yet!
The installation process is super easy. When you first open it, you’ll notice it uses your computer's desktop wallpaper to create a familiar vibe. Visually, it looks way better than most browsers out there. The UI elements are softer around the edges, making everything feel more interactive when you hover over them.
One thing we liked is how the essential UI elements (like the toolbar and tab bar) are positioned on each side of the main window. Moving your cursor from side to side feels much easier compared to scrolling up and down.
The Speed Dial feature in Opera Neon is quite unique! You can easily drag any tab onto the Omnibox to bookmark your favorite sites without any fuss.
Now that we’ve covered first impressions, let’s talk about performance—yes, it’s fast! You’ll find some cool features here too: a neat split-screen mode, a video pop-up player (which we’ll dive into shortly), and a simple tool for taking snapshots right from your browser.
If you want to use split-screen mode, just drag any tab to either side of the screen using the hover-on-display menu. Super simple!
You can find the snapshot tool in the left toolbar. It lets you capture anything happening in your browsing area. All your saved images will be stored in a Gallery within the browser for easy access.
The pop-up video player might just be our favorite feature! It automatically collects all currently playing videos into an easy-access section where you can play or pause them. Plus, you can pop them out into their own little windows that can be adjusted anywhere within your browser interface.
This feature lets you do multiple things at once—like chatting on Facebook Messenger while reading an article on one side of your screen and watching YouTube on another! And yes, you can snap pictures of all this action if needed!
This whole concept-browser idea means it’s more about exploring new designs rather than competing directly with other browsers. But honestly? Opera Neon checks off many important boxes: speed? Check! Style? Absolutely! User-friendliness? For sure!
