openMolar is a handy Dental Practice Management Suite that’s being used by a thriving mixed NHS/private dental practice in Scotland. It covers everything from scheduling appointments and planning treatments to handling billing!

How It All Started

The brain behind this project is actually a dentist who got fed up with the existing commercial software. After realizing it just wasn’t cutting it, he decided to create his own solution. He even went to the 3rd DOCHS in Los Angeles to gather some great tips and insights from top people in medical open-source software.

What Makes openMolar Unique?

The author uses Stani's Python Editor on Ubuntu for developing this software. It’s built on a traditional client/server model but is designed to work smoothly across different platforms like Linux, Mac, and Windows. This means you can choose your own hardware! No more having vendors dictate how you should run your practice. The founder knows all too well how frustrating it can be when only one screen resolution or one type of printer works.
