Flashcards may not be for everyone, but there's a lot of science behind their effectiveness as a learning tool. If working with paper for creating flashcards is not your thing, you can always try a flashcard app for your computer.

Oboete is one such app. Oboete is a simple free and open-source flashcard app for Linux. It's an app built primarily for the COSMIC desktop (Pop!_OS) and it's written in Rust.

Oboete is by no means a complex app and therefore the whole experience is pretty basic (and that's not necessarily a bad thing). You're provided with a modern GUI that allows you to create, review and organize flashcards.

Flashcard creation is very similar to that of other apps (you just enter the information that goes on the flashcard, such as questions, and the answers on the back).

The app displays flashcards, and you can choose any of the three options based on your answer: BAD, OK, and GOOD. This way, once you review a series of flashcards, you know exactly where there's room for improvement.

Another cool feature of Oboete is that it allows users to import flashcards from other sources (however, during my testing, I've only seen the option to import them from Anki, a flashcard/space repetition app).

Last but not least, Oboete is a fully offline app. This is very good for privacy reasons, but not that good if you're the type of user who requires quick synchronization of flashcards on other devices.

Taking everything into account Oboete is a decent little app that does exactly what it says on the tin. The whole experience is also decent, but I have to point out that I find the whole flashcard reviewing process somewhat rigid. I would have preferred if users could instantly review a flashcard answer.
