What is Nvidia Linux Display Driver IA64 FOR LINUX?

Nvidia Linux Display Driver IA64

Nvidia Linux Display Driver IA64 is a cool, free OpenGL video driver that supports a bunch of Nvidia graphics cards on computers running GNU/Linux. This version is specially made for computers using the IA-64 architecture, which means it works with Itanium hardware.

How to Install Nvidia Linux Display Driver IA64

If you want to get this driver up and running on your Itanium computer with a Linux kernel, you need to start by installing the kernel headers for your specific Linux setup. Then, grab the binary package from the Downloads section above. Make sure it's in the “run” file format!

Getting Started with Installation

The “run” file acts like a command-line installer. Save it in your Home directory first. Next, exit your graphical session and switch to a console environment. Here’s where you need to log in as the root user and type out this command: sh NVIDIA-Linux-ia64-1.0-5336-pkg1.run (no quotes!) to kick things off.

Configuring Your Graphics Card

During installation, once the kernel module is all set up, you'll get asked if you want to tweak the X configuration file yourself or let the installer choose the best settings for your Nvidia graphics card (we recommend going with the second option!). After everything’s installed, just reboot your machine.

Final Steps After Installation

Once you’re back in your graphical session, open an X11 terminal emulator and run nvidia-xconfig. This will make sure your new driver is set as default.

A Little Note About Support

Honestly, we don’t have any Itanium hardware here at Softpedia Labs, so we can’t test it ourselves! But since Nvidia put out this video driver, it should be compatible with most Itanium computers out there. Just keep in mind that Nvidia Linux Display Driver IA64 isn’t getting active updates anymore because not many people use Itanium IA-64 systems these days. Plus, it’s no longer featured on Nvidia's official Linux Driver page.
