nvALT is a free version of the original Notational Velocity app, and it comes with some cool extra features and a few tweaks to the interface.
What is Notational Velocity?
Notational Velocity lets you take notes super quickly and easily, all using just your keyboard. When you need to jot something down, hit a shortcut key, and up pops the window. You can start typing right away! As you type, it automatically searches through your existing notes and filters them so you can find what you need.
Navigating Your Notes
You can use ⌘-J and ⌘-K to scroll through your list of notes. When you find what you're looking for, just hit Enter, and you'll be able to edit that note right away!
Creating New Notes Made Easy
If you're making a brand-new note, all you have to do is type in a unique title for it. Then just press Enter, and your cursor will jump into a blank area where you can start writing.
