Nikon Transfer is a handy and friendly app for Mac OS X that makes it super easy to transfer photos from your Nikon camera right to your hard drive. If you love taking pictures, this tool is perfect for you!
With Nikon Transfer, not only can you move your photos, but you can also back them up and even include cool details like copyright info or thumbnails while you're at it. When you open the main window of Nikon Transfer, you can pick where to grab your pictures from—be it your camera or an external disk.
There's a neat feature called the Embedded Info tab. This lets you choose what kind of information you want to include during the transfer. You can easily add or change details using the XMP / IPTC Preset window. Here, you can put in your own tags, descriptions, contact details—you name it!
Nikon Transfer also helps with keeping everything organized. You can set where all those photos go by picking a primary folder and even decide how subfolders are created. Plus, there’s a cool renaming feature! You get to choose prefixes and suffixes for each file and use numbers or dates to keep track of when each shot was taken.
This app isn't just about transferring; it's great for backing up your precious memories too! Just like with transfers, you can create subfolders based on a name of your choice whenever you're backing up.
If you're looking to share your shots online, check out the my Picturetown tab. It lets you upload photos directly to your my Picturetown webpage in just a few clicks! Fun fact: my Picturetown is Nikon’s online photo service now known as Nikon Image Space.
You’ll love the Preferences tab in my Picturetown too! It allows the app to automatically start when you connect a device and even disconnect it once you're done transferring. And if that’s not enough, it can shut down your Mac after finishing up!
If you've got older Nikon cameras or Macs lying around that you're not using anymore, consider checking out View NX 2. It includes Nikon Transfer 2 as well!
