NiceeePC

NiceeePC is a cool automation script made just for the ASUS eeePC. It's built with Bash and works great on Ubuntu Linux. If you've ever had issues with your Ubuntu install, like ACPI support, Wi-Fi problems, or slow boot times, this script can help fix almost all of them!

Easy Fixes for Your eeePC

This script is interactive, which means you get to pick what fixes or features you want to use. Some things depend on the kernel version (like ACPI and Wi-Fi), but don't worry! The script can keep an eye on kernel updates and even update your system without needing an internet connection. Plus, it can set up Adam's awesome custom kernel for the eeePC.

Install Useful Software

You'll also be able to install handy programs like Skype, UCView, Audacious, Avant Window Navigator, and Wine. And the best part? It's super secure! You can run it as many times as you want without crashing your system. If you prefer manual control over any function, that's totally cool too!

Tested Versions

The latest version was tested specifically on the eeePC 701 with a clean install of Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04.1. Just a heads up: the eeePC 900 hasn't been tested yet! If you're interested in helping out, give the script a go and send in any bug reports.

The script also enables function keys to make your life easier:

• FN-F1: Enabled by default.


• FN-F2: Toggle wireless + custom OSD.


• FN-F3: Decrease brightness + native OSD.


• FN-F4: Increase brightness + native OSD.


• FN+F5: Switch VGA output.


• FN+F6: Toggle overclock + custom OSD.


• FN+F7: Mute default mixer + Native OSD.


• FN+F8: Volume down + Native OSD.


• FN+F9: Volume up + Native OSD.

Straightforward Installation Process

If you're ready to install the script, just type these commands in a clean install of Ubuntu Hardy (make sure you have a wired connection):

sudo mkdir /usr/share/niceeepc

cd /usr/share/niceeepc

sudo wget http://launchpad.net/niceeepc/trunk/1.0/+download/niceeepc-1.0.tar.gz

sudo tar zxvf niceeepc-1.0.tar.gz

sudo ln /usr/share/niceeepc/niceeepc.sh /usr/bin/niceeepc
